Turning chat and messaging on or off
The Chat & messaging card lets you disable the Pippa AI chat and/or care-team messaging for a specific patient, when a surface isn't right for them.
Some patients shouldn't be using the Pippa AI chat, and some shouldn't be messaging the care team between sessions. The Chat & messaging card lets you turn either one off for an individual patient. It lives on the patient's Customizations tab, and both switches are on by default.
What each switch does
The change reaches the patient's app the next time it refreshes (within about a minute of a save, or immediately when they next foreground the app).
Turning a switch off removes the entry point in the app; it does not delete anything already sent. Turn it back on and the surface reappears with its history intact.
When to use it
- AI chat off — a patient for whom the companion isn't clinically appropriate, or who is using it in a way that isn't helping. Their safety protections (crisis routing) live in the app regardless; this simply removes the chat surface.
- Care-team messaging off — a caseload or boundary decision where between-session messaging isn't part of the plan for this patient.
Because both default on, you never have to enable anything for a normal patient. You only reach for this card when a surface should come off for a specific person.
